Literature Text

A tiny component is all it takes,
For him to solve a case.
A fibre, residue, even a smell
And his mind begins to race.

His body becomes still and tense,
Yet restless are his eyes,
Searching, scouring every inch,
For what caused the victim's demise.

Nobody dares go near him,
Interrupt his train of thought.
For when he slips into this state,
The culprit is always caught.

Every once in a while,
A case will test his wit.
His brilliant mind will meet another,
The clues do not seem to fit.

This challenged, luminous detective,
Finds himself behind
The cunning footsteps of the villain.
The malevolent mastermind.

Yet when all hope appears to be lost,
When he seems at the end of his tether,
This jagged jigsaw of a case
Starts to piece together.

A smile creeps across his face,
His eyes begin to glisten,
He slowly opens his mouth to speak,
Everyone stops to listen.

Their faces fill with awe,
As he begins to relay
How this baffling crime was committed.
His genius on display.

Even though he has closed this case,
He continues to take everything in,
His pondering brain is far from resting,
As he plays his violin.

To others this man is a spectacle,
With his mind that constantly roams.
To me he is my greatest friend,
The one and only Sherlock Holmes.
